when i use push to talk voice activate is still on

OK when i am trying to enable push to talk because my friends get annoyed when i make random noises so i tried to enable it at first i thought nothing was wrong i was using the push to talk button then when i talked without the button pushed they could hear me so i thought it wanst on but it was on... when i use push to talk voice activate is still on
